Default 5th Gear Popping Out of Gear

I have a 97 GS, and when I shift into 5th gear it stays, but anytime i give it a little more gas and try to pick up speed/make it up a hill or whatever, the gear pops out of place. What is causing this? Thanks!

Never herd of that before, contact a local transmission shop, they proly know the answer off the top of their head.

Off hand it sounds like a clutch problem to me. I was having a similar problem with a '93 MX-3 shortly before the car stopped moving altogether cuz of a bad clutch. Do you have to drop the clutch and gas 'er pretty good in first or anything like that? Might be signs that you're getting ready for a new one here REALLY soon.

No, the rest of the gears are fine. I took it to a transmission shop and they said its most likely a bent shift rod, seeing as how only 5th gear is affected. Oh well....

I have a friends GSX that does it in 3rd occasionally... Hes gonna rebuild the tranny soon so hes not to worried about it, but what ive noticed I have to put pressure on it when its in 3rd or it jumps out.. Being in 5th it may suck a little more but you should be able to hold it into gear just by putting some pressure on it when you give step on it...

yea, its just a pain to do it for an hour and a half freeway ride haha, plus i dont want to injure the tranny further, but yea...i guess i am going to have it looked at and determine what exactly needs to be done. But if any of you want to help me with my tranny, I am selling my wheels and tires off my car to do it, so check out this post : https://mitsubishiforum.com/m_27171/..._/tm.htm#27171

Gotta be caarefull with that forcing crap. I actually had a tranny get stuck in 3rd doin that shyt. I went to put it in 3rd it didn't wanna so I tried again it STILL didn't wanna so I jammed in it and by gawd it went but then it wouldn't come out again LOL. Drove it from ashtabula Ohio to Youngstown Ohio in 3rd stops n goes and all. Toasted my clutch that way too.
