98 GSX 2.0 Turbo
Just picked this rig up. Not sure if it would run, had to get keys made. Well, the car started right up. Both oil sensors needed to be replaced for some odd reason. I pulled the top cover off the timing belt. I see the cam sprockets have been identified with a marker as intake and exhaust. I would assume the sprockets have been removed, maybe to change seals. I have replaced many timing belts, and have yet to see an old one that "Looks" bad. I don't see any manufacturer markings on this belt, so I assume it hasn't been replaced. The car has 92K on it. If the belt had been replaced it probably would have been fairly recent. So, I guess my question is, is there anyway I can tell if the belt has been replaced or not? If I would have had the cam sprockets off, I would have replaced the belt, but that's not always the case. Thanks for any help or info that I can use. Also, I think the water pump might be making some noise. Other than that it seems like a solid ride. Thanks again..

Well, reading thru the owners manual, I see the timing belt should be replaced at 60k, unless you are in three specific states (can't remember which ones), then it is recommended, but not required. The next interval is at 100k, which I am almost at now. So, the belt needs to be replaced.
