98 GSX problems and prices
Hey Guys i'm about to buy a 98 GSX from a private owner. everything seems to check out ok and they were very up front witht he problems. 1 the person said that they were changing the clutch in it and accientally or somehow clipped the spedometer cable so the spedometer does not work at all. what would it cost for me to replace/fix it? also they said that the throw out bearing on the clutch/shifter was going out, what would it cost for me to replace/fix that? any help is most appreciated guys. thanks.

The 7bolt makes the price go down especially if it has been raced/modded and has high milage.

8500 i think sounds pretty fair, esp since i am prolly gonna talk him down in the range of 700 or so. but it also has new forged pistons, rods, rings, cams, cam gears, pullies, upgraded 18g turbo, aftermarket side mount intercooler, aem oversized brakes, hks bov, greddy turbo timer, aftermarket boost gauge, lsd on front and back, aftermarket 17' racing rims, and catback exhuast... and not to mention the GSX model is hard as a BIA to find under 10k. is sitting at apx 360chp. is engineered to hold 600+hp after i install boost controller, front mount, larger injectors and new ecu. also i was talking to the wife earlier when i heard the probs. it's not the spedo cable, it's the "meter in the transaxle" he says, the TOB is ok but he says if you really gun it, it sticks. i'm not going to replace the clutch because he just put a new masters twin plated street performance clutch with less than 5k miles on it.

TOB is about 25 bucks, just a pita to replace.
For the matter of the spedo cable, if you drop the tranny to replace the clutch 5k miles ago and forget to remove the spedo sensor usually the weight of the tranny greater then the tensil strength of the spedo cable. Thus why it needs to be replaced and cant be splecied back in seeing how 1g cars used cables and the 2g cars used all digital controls like normal wires. When it got ripped out it came right out of the base of the sensor.
Lastly thats a sweet deal, I cant find any 2g awd's around here for under 10g's thats not beat like a step child.

that is a pretty damn good deal. But sorry to say...if it has all those mods...it has been beatten on a bit. I dont care who drove it, you dont get all that stuff then just cruise. But either way, still a good deal. Your going to love driving the AWD.
