Default ABS Light is ON ?

Hi,

i own Eclipse 96 GS.
We checked sensors and are OK, my mechanic said, that must be problem in electronic or computer (not sure).
Does anyone know or had same problem ?

P.S.: Brakes work but ABS not

Best Regards

ok...this is just a sort of quick check, is your brake fluid to the proper level, and how are the pads and rotors?

Do you have a dash light for a parking brake lit? My nissan would light the dash brake warning light if the fluid was too low.

I've never seen an ABS light because of the pads/rotors being too low... I HAVE seen computers go bad though.

on many vehicles, the "ABS" light signifies some problem with the braking system, including a low brake fluid condition. if your brake pads are very thin, and youre running on rotord that are well below man. spec., it can draw enough brake fluid out of the resevoir to trigger the low fluid "ABS" light.

The Haynes manul says to look for the following:

1 Check the brake fluid in the reservoir
2 Verify that the computer electrical connectors are securly connected
3 Check the electrical connectors at the hydrolic control unit
4 Check the fuses
5 Follow the wiring harness to each weel and verify that all connections are secure and that the wiring is undamaged.

I would start with one and four but the mechanic should already have checked these. Also did the mechanic read the cars codes?

Does it actually throw a code for an ABS light? I've only pulled codes for CELs before didn't know ABS threw one too.

Id like to think that more computer control would help find problems faster but some days i wish there was non at all. Keep it simple spark, gas, air. Maybe thats too simple. Maybe i was born 30 years too late.
