Automatic Transmission Problems

Automatic Transmission Problems
I've got a 94 Mitsubishi Eclipse 1.8L automatic. When cold, the transmission slips and will actually go into gear intermittently for about a second or so at a time. Once it warms up, it seems for the most part normal. There is what feels to be slipping here and there (especially around 55-60mph when it goes to lock up in overdrive), but for the most part it is liveable. I have replaced the filter twice and drained and refilled it several times because it seemed to start slipping really bad after adding Lucas transmission additive. Hence the drain and refill and filter change several times to try and get rid of any Lucas that may be left. I'm 99% sure the fluid is at the proper level. Anybody have the same problem, or perhaps any suggestions as to what it may be that is causing the problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: Automatic Transmission Problems
Anybody got any ideas? I really want to drive it, but it takes 10-15 minutes of trying to inch it forward and backward before it finally goes anywhere, I'm worried that I'll destory the transmission, or I'm worried it'll leave me stranded. So, anybody got any similar problems or ideas or anything?

RE: Automatic Transmission Problems
could be the gears are chiped, or cracked, when metal warms it expands, so it could be that when its cold the gears are just slightly to small to catch properly, and it is 10 years old so the tranny might go soon, normal wear and tear, i personally wouldnt drive it untill you get it checked out, a buddy of mine did that and, though it was a jeep, litterally shattered the gears in his gear box.............

RE: Automatic Transmission Problems
Could very well be some of the gears or could be having some problems with the tourqe converter. Either way I'd get it checked out before you do anything, could be an easy fix and if so you wanna do it before it messes with anything else, if you need a new tranny then it's better to know now too.

RE: Automatic Transmission Problems
turns out that it looks like it was a $.53 oring that was the culprit. I had taken the valvebody off because the valves were stuck. cleaned everything up and put it back in. I didn this like 3 times and everytime it would work for a little while then quit. the last time i cleaned it up, but when i put it back together, i replace an oring on the i believe, pump pressure side. it's been working fine for the past week now. lesson learned - replace orings when ever taking something apart that uses orings.

ya, but i don't know how much i spent in fluid in between 4,5,or 6 times of dropping the pan. Didn't want to reuse the stuff in there in case there was something in it causing everything to foul up.

I have the same problem with my 1992 Mitsu Magna (4 cyl TR)
"When cold, the transmission slips and will actually go into gear intermittently for about a second or so at a time"
This describes my problem exactly and in addition
"Once it warms up, it seems for the most part normal. There is what feels to be slipping here and there (especially around 95-100kph), but for the most part it is liveable. "
Have you solved this problem yet?
