Could my ECU not be my ECU?

Could my ECU not be my ECU?
Hey all, was talking to some gear heads here and I mentioned my odd electrical problem that comes and goes. One guy mentioned he had issues with his ride (not sure if it was a DSM or not) and said that they found out his ECU was not the ECU for his car.
I know just by looking that the ECU on my car has been played with. How can I check (visually) if it is the stock/proper ECU for my car.
Thanks

RE: Could my ECU not be my ECU?
call a chrystler dealership and give them the numbers on the ecu, the ecu is behind the radio, not the one under the center console, common mistake, and they will tell you what car its out of, it is it out of one of theirs. Im going through this right now, little fun fact the ecu in the car i baught is from a first gen im in the middle of buyin a new ecu from dsmtrader
