Default TPS BLUES

Hi,

I broke down and bought a 1999 Eclipse Spyder 4g63 GST. One day im zipping along and the check engine light comes on. I take it to Pep Boys, and they say the code is the TPS sensor, they adjust it and everything is cool for a while. Then that !@@ light comes back on. They guy at pep boys tells me if it comes on again to replace the TPS. I ordered a brand new spanking TPS, and yank the old one off and put the new one on. Reset the check engine light, and everything is good again. Then the !@#$ light comes back on, I loosen the tps and adjust it according to the Road Race Engineering website, everything is cool. I wake up one morning hop in the car, and the light is on, and I havent even driven it???? Any clues? HELP!!!!!!!

Have you bothered cleaning the intake/throttle body? The fact that the pedal is all the way up but the valve doesn't close because there is too much crap blocking the valve MAY give you a TPS code. Basically take the pipe off the TB and spray carb cleaner all over on the flat circle thing and take an old toothbrush, push the cirlce piece open and scrub the black stuff out with the toothbrush. Spray more carb cleaner in there and make suure the black stuff is mostly gone. Now start the engine and go get the light reset again (Also remember after spraying the carb cleaner in there it won't want to start at first. Keep cranking it and it'll eventually start).

Thank, i did that already minus the scrub the throttle body. I did notice a carbon ring around where the valve closes. I will give that a shot on Sunday and let you if I have any probs.

Should I do it while its on manifold, or yank that sucker of?

Thanks

I have a Eclipse GS-T Spyder: Convertible FWD model equipped with a 210 hp turbocharged 2.0 L 16-valve DOHC Mitsubishi 4G63 engine.

I recently purchased this car and been having TPS problems, first I replace the TPS and still the check engine light comes on. I cleaned the black stuff off the inside of the throttle body; the check engine still comes on.

I noticed when I purchased the car that it was missing a hose that is supposed to be attached at the top of throttle body, a port marked “P†located on the top of the throttle body? (Photo Ref: A)

I also noticed that it is not filled in like the other two ports (Photo Ref: B)

My next course of action is to switch out the throttle body? If I do purchase another one where does this hose run to?

Right, I figured that instead of creating another post and adding to the tens of thosands post. I figured I add it to the string to try to keep things organized.
