Default Idle and acceleration issues

Hi,

I am looking for help with a mystery issue.

I have a 2001 Elipse GS Spyder
I started having a problem when I am in first gear and also am in idle. I get strong vibrations in the sterring column first. Every so often, my RPM's start increasing and decreasing. My engine even stalls out if the RPM's drop too low. I have also add issues when I am driving. I have noticed that I loss acceration when I left off the gas sometimes and even when I am accelerating slightly.

I have found a work-around when I am in idle for the vibrations 95% of the time. I have the sportronic shift. I switch over to manual and start accelerating in 2nd gear from idle position.

I took it in to a mechanic, and they they were baffled. They thought it was my spark plugs and they ended up replacing my coils on my spark plugs and it didn't solve anything. They thought it might be a fuel filter, but after some reseach, it looks it might be a ICS??, Mass air flow or TPS.

Any idea???? I am desperate to get this fixed.
Thank you for any help.

If it were the tps or ica it would be constant, I think its kinda funny how mechanics act. When ever someone has a stalling issue first thing they jump to is spark plugs/wires. Anyway Its werid how when you change the tranny ove it stops, I would head to a tranny shop and see what they say, either that or a dealer and only get it checked out. Dealers see common problems with models and may have herd of this before... but they will charge you 2x what a normal shop would.

Do you think that maybe it could be an oxygen sensor or a bad mix of fuel and oxygen.

nah an O2 sensor wont give all those problems and it would throw a check engine code. Ive heard of alot of people having this problem and it being the IAC sensor

I called Auto Computer Supply and he said that because my car was a 2001, that the engine was made by Chrsyler and that the 3rd generation IAC sensor would never have to be replaced. But it does sound right. What about the possiblilty of TPS or a Transmission issue?
Thank you for your response.

I have 2 bad TPS sensor and i am using 1 of them that work better thanthe other. My problem with the TPS was that it was bucking really hard if u hold the rpm in 1st and 2nd gear between 1.5k-1k. Dont know if you can test the 3rd gen TPS like the 2nd. But my readings fluctuate so it caused alot of buckin. Dont know if you can drive the 3rd gen car with the TPS disconnected, but in my car it is disconnected and everything smooth like butter. It just bad on gas. That was my trial and error to diagnose my problem and point to the TPS.
