Another 07 newbie...
Hi everyone! I'm finally going about getting my very first eclipse (or new car, for that matter) and just had a few questions that I hope some of you can help me with. I'm favoring the 07 Eclipse GS, btw.
1. The dealership is offering all sorts of extra stuff (for extra $) such as Xylonn (sp?) protective coating. They would cover the entire interior and exterior of the car. It's supposed to make cars shiny and make stains come off easily, etc. They're kind of pushy about this product, even though I feel it's overly-expensive (over $1000). I don't think I need it as long as I keep the car in good condition andI plan on keeping this car for a long time (10+yrs). Just wondering what everyone else thinks/has experienced.
2. I have to have leather seats. The cloth seats are just... yuck. This is the one luxury add-on that I really care about in a car and I'm very specific about it. I'm wondering about the price though, the dealership wants roughly $1200 for the leather including installation. Does this sound about right?
Thanks everyone!
Susan

Is there an option of a GS that already comes with leather interior? The coating? I wouldn't spend on that. Usually that is their way of building up the total cost of the car, and for the salesman to make more money. Don't be surprised if they try some scare tactics, and give you examples of the pricey costs of damages, etc.
If you are planning on parking your car in a garage or covered parking, then your paint will be ok.

I think that stuff is like the 3m vinyl crap? It does actually make a big difference. Although getting it done by the dealership might not be a good idea, if you get it done by a reputable place then the 3M is guarenteed for life and if it ever yellows then you can replace it.
My brother has it on the Lotus and he LOVES it. It really does do its job.

I actually think the $1200 for leather seats isn't bad. My dad is an upholsterer and it would be alot more to do it after the fact. So I would get it from the dealership. But as far as the protective layer, it probably not a good idea to get it from the dealership b/c its probably over priced b/c its an extra that they would hire out for someone else to install it anyway. So I would skip the middle man and go straight to the source with that stuff. I would also want to know how well that protective layer holds up, will it start to peel up in 5-7 years??? But it does sound like an interesting product.

Lifetime warrenty bro. Yes it protects very well. It obviously wont protect against big freakin rocks, but little things thrown up by trucks and road grime, yes.
I agree with what you said. The leather seats arent all that pricy. Worth it.

I agree with Sebba, I have a small dent in front of my hood that I got shortly after walking away from the stealer(stupid debrie tossed at me from a dump truck!), came back a week later to claim it as part of the corrosion warranti, and they might have as well laughed in front of my face. I knew from the get go they were not gona cover it, but I gave it a shot. I would stay away from the stealer option for the coating, The 3M stuff is probably 10xbetter and cheaper, you could have it done for less than $500 if you only do the parts that really need it like hood, bumper and sides.
