First off, neither of those is a true cold air intake. Those are Short Ram Intakes (SRI's for short), a true cold air system places the air filter outside of the engine bay, usually in the fender or bumper of the vehicle. Second, no, and let me repeat NO short ram system is worth $90. Which engine are you running, cuz if you're working with the 4g93, you'll need a MAF adapter as well.

By the way, AEM makes a CAI for the '02 Lancer ES that works with some minor modificatoin on the 5g mirage. If you're looking for a true cold air system, that's the way to go unless you are comfortable building your own.

I hope this question doesn't seem stupid - would a bonnet scoop or vent immediately over a ram intake allow it to draw cold air still, or is it better to have a longer arm to a filter behind the bumper?
Would the intake arm pick up much heat? They're usually a metal of some type soI believe

I'm just a newbie, but am trying to get a good understanding, so.

hood vents are better for letting heat out of the bay than letting air in. you might get a little cooler air charge with an sri, but keep in mind that placing a vent directly over top of a filter is a bad idea if you plan on driving on anything but a sunny day.

Is there much risk of wetting the filter if it is sitting in behind the foggie? I guess not since it's what people do...
It might be possible to insulate the intake arm as well if appearances aren't important... or get a ceramic coat.... damn you could spend an infinite amount of money and timeon these things...

for those of you who are trying to hoock up an cold air intake on their 4g15 the DE coupe . none of the manufactures , after market ,make any cold air intake for this type of car but we still wonder why, how the same type of mirage is been made the EVO, with turbo in it... custom air intake are the best to go with ,. an thats what i have decided to do. but my question is.. the air intake pipel should it be metal or plastic kind?. which was is to be better at .. facing up or faceing down?is there a way to open the fender part? or would u think that water can go through?

most durable will be a metal intake pipe, route it through around and as far away from all of your coolant lines as possible, underneath your battery tray with the intake filter facing down. That'll get you the coolest intake charge and the filter will still be relativley high off the ground. As a procautionary measure though, I'd add a shroud cover to the filter and a bypass valve to your intake at least 1-2 feet from the throttle body.

the ECU timming gets u 92 Hp out from the 1.5 Liter engine.. is there any thing that we can get that would improve the Hp. like ECU or any thing else other than custom air intake?

are u serouse? u can NEVER turbo charge a 1.5 litter engine.. am thinking if u no some site or some where to get ECU computer chips to improve piston timming.. orrr . do u have any idea where we can get just an intter cooler system to be hoocked up to an intake.. ?
i can't find any where, any place any web site that would have after market preformace parts an at the same time it won't hurt the engine for this small 1.5 Liter engine.

Ho-ly ****, are you serious? You wanna double check that can't turbo a a 1.5 bit, cuz I'll bet you my life savings that you can (hint hint, take a look at my sig). You can turbo virtually ANY car with the right no how and budget. And why are you so stuck on an ECU? There is no aftermarket unit made specifically for the Mirage, so short of a piggy back unit like an emanage or SAFC (which would be pointless at this point, because you've got nothing done to your motor to justify adding more fuel), or going standalone, you're SOL. And Piston timing? WTF are you talking about. You can change compression, but timing is something totally different, and you need neither at this stage. And an intercooler (not spelled intter cooler) will do nothing but restrict air flow and make your car slower UNLESS you've got a turbo that's pushing air through it.Seriously though, I think you should leave your car alone. Based on the questions and comments that you've made, I'm going to assume that you automotive knowledge is right around the 8 year old level, based solely on what you've seen in the F&F movies and from playing with hotwheels. Come back when you've got some intellegent questions to ask.

Oh and by the way, this topic has been covered numerous times before. Maybe you should try searching instead of asking people to spoon feed you.

thats painful. but any ways, i found other ways to improve a little bit of acceleration.
