View Full Version : Targa Top Eclipse Clipse1 04-26-2007, 07:20 PM I rhink that its fotoshoped but it still looks pretty sick local://upfiles/10952/31ABCCBBD9CB4543B74D6F9F906B3764.jpg darknigh7th 04-26-2007, 07:57 PM there is an eclipse that is targa topped, if you got it off of dsmtuners.com then it's real. I love the way it looks Sebba 04-26-2007, 08:20 PM Too bad i bet the car would have lost a lot of structural integrity Dusty Eclipse 04-26-2007, 08:50 PM See... Ive wanted to do this to my Talon for years... Ive seen that same photo, and its real. As per Sebs thing, yes it prolly did. as hes put reinforcement bars across the roof. But I dont get why... When the convertible version of the eclipse lowers its top it would have the same problem no? Sebba 04-26-2007, 08:58 PM No the actual frame of the Spyder is different. davidmitsusrock 04-27-2007, 02:33 AM mmm not my style. Sebba 04-27-2007, 02:34 AM Defenatly my style... its a shame mitsu never designed one themselves TheEngineer 04-27-2007, 10:05 AM that definetly is real. I remember reading a whole article on it from the guy. He did alot of structural work so that it wont start destroying the chasis. So it still is pretty strong. But he spent alot of time and money on doing that right Dusty Eclipse 04-27-2007, 10:49 AM Seb (or TE), what is it in the frame that supports it differently? Some kind of crossmember? I mean, how much diff. can the frame possibly be? TheEngineer 04-27-2007, 11:34 AM They use brackets and stronger frame. Thats why they weigh so much more than a hard top. The hardtop of a normal car plays a huge role in the stiffness of the frame, cut that out and you are gonna have major problems. So there is a pretty considerable difference between the two. Dusty Eclipse 04-27-2007, 11:44 AM Ok, so lets say one could get a hold ofa convertible DSM, could they just (in short) remove the soft top and its components (retractor motor and all) remove the trunk lid and weld a hard top in its place then cut a targa in? Im sure theres more to it, but you get what I mean... TheEngineer 04-27-2007, 01:13 PM thats alot of work. Im sure it could be done Dusty Eclipse 04-27-2007, 01:20 PM lol, it couldnt be worse than putting a 4g63 in a 420a frame LMAO... Seriously though, I feel as if it would be rather rewarding.. though if I tried it myself it would end up looking like this in the end... http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e72/VertigoRT/mexicansuv.jpg 50ul }{4ck3r 04-27-2007, 04:43 PM LMMFAO TheEngineer 04-27-2007, 06:38 PM hahaha. nice Clipse1 04-28-2007, 02:34 AM Dats ****s funny silvercoupe97 04-28-2007, 08:19 AM Here's more pics of that 2G Targa. http://www.twingles.com/ideck/ That is a lot of reinforcing just to have a targa top IMO. Even after putting in a roll cage, the body can still twist because the structures stress point has been moved from the roof to the floor and without a frame the floor will still twist....this is commented towards the AWD trims btw...this is also the same for the AWD converted Spyder(s). EmberSpyder 04-29-2007, 08:35 PM AWD Spyders rock my world. tidus10 05-02-2007, 12:15 PM if i didnt already have a convertable....i'd do it GSXEX Knubbe 05-04-2007, 02:50 AM some reason the 2g eclipse's had a similar body to the supra. seeing that targa top makes the difference a hell of alot closer .... AND its 3x as sexy as the original. 2gEclipse96 05-04-2007, 11:20 AM why wouldn't you buy a supra IMO i don't understand at all mcguffp 05-07-2007, 04:43 AM yea but supras cost tons of money. they are awesome but thats more money then i haev to spend on a car. i think the targa top lots kinda cool, i personally wouldnt do it, mostly because of all the wrok it would take, but i think its neat. silvercoupe97 05-08-2007, 09:57 AM Found another Targa top 2G...stumbled on it while looking in on Tuner's. local://upfiles/10268/3ABC4159402B4AE1A66406366A5D4A3B.jpg This one is a turbo'd 420a and goes by SnoopySLR SwiftTeckneeK 05-22-2007, 07:33 AM That looks nice man. I would love for my Eclipse to come that way. Im more of a sun person when it comes to things like that. I love it when it shines up your interior and puts some life into the car. If i had the money I would get that done to my Eclipse. Dusty Eclipse 05-22-2007, 07:38 AM I wanna see someone do this to a 3G.. SwiftTeckneeK 05-23-2007, 07:47 AM ORIGINAL: GSXEX Knubbe some reason the 2g eclipse's had a similar body to the supra. seeing that targa top makes the difference a hell of alot closer .... AND its 3x as sexy as the original. You are right my friend. That's why I see Eclipse's with Supra conversions all the time. Whether it's the headlights or in most cases the tailights. Dusty Eclipse 05-23-2007, 07:50 AM If you want a Supra, BUY a Supra... IMO the Eclipse lights look just fine on Eclipses. Molding Ferrari lights into a Tercel wouldnt make it hot, and I fail to see how this would either. Supra tail lights are HUGE compared to the Eclipse lights, neccessitating a wide body kit... which just looks wrong, not to mention makes no sense on a generally FWD car. But thats just my .02 silvercoupe97 05-23-2007, 07:55 AM ORIGINAL: Dusty Eclipse Molding Ferrari lights into a Tercel.................wouldnt make it hot. LMAO as I picture that. I don't know DE, it sure would make that Tercel sleek lookin', LMAO...I'm going to dream about one now. Dusty Eclipse 05-23-2007, 07:56 AM Someone photoshop that! Wheres Nate?? The "Tercerossa" lol 50ul }{4ck3r 05-23-2007, 12:54 PM Im on it....lol...but later in the day RYAN Get me a pic of a Tercel (BACK-END) & Ferrari (BACK-END) cause u always find better pix..then i do Dusty Eclipse 05-23-2007, 01:43 PM Fine fine, Ill IM you with em 50ul }{4ck3r 05-23-2007, 01:50 PM cool.....lol...im packing all my stuff to move to my new 2 story house...the 31st of this month sso lil busy but i will do that Tercerossa some time today..hahahha jpmontero98 05-24-2007, 09:37 AM IMO to keep the structural integrity id make it a T-Top 50ul }{4ck3r 05-24-2007, 04:28 PM still looking for good pics...its hard to find the good pix SwiftTeckneeK 05-25-2007, 07:06 AM ORIGINAL: 50ul }{4ck3r still looking for good pics...its hard to find the good pix I can't wait to see how it will turn out. I know its going to look so crazy man. Dusty Eclipse 05-25-2007, 07:57 AM I was gonna look for pics... but then I got... lol jpmontero98 05-25-2007, 01:45 PM i need to put up pics of my montero....but i dont have acces to a comp that i can upload them, andd my montero has primer spots all over it Evoman_RC 06-02-2007, 06:14 PM gud try, looking good. sk8dudety 06-04-2007, 01:39 PM Hey, here's a guy whos in the process of makin his a targa top too... top = cool, rest of car = fugly... although kudo's on the nice turbo 420A http://www.cardomain.com/ride/269259/1 Dusty Eclipse 06-04-2007, 01:46 PM Eh, it could have been done better, but like you said, kudos on the 420aT 50ul }{4ck3r 06-04-2007, 08:44 PM sk8dudety that car is gay....so gay.....the body kit makes me laugh....hahahhahaha....what a ricer silvercoupe97 06-04-2007, 09:04 PM The interior is pretty cool...the roll cage anyway. What I don't understand is why he's keeping the rear seats. Nobody will be able to even get into the backseats. I agree, that body kit is not my style at all. Blitz kits are...hmmm...my least liked fascias. The widebody is cool....on a Supra. The targa top is pretty cool. The turbo has little affect on power since he's added a bunch of weight into it. That car is definitely a show car. A for effort. E for everything else. RCJr9186 06-05-2007, 07:26 AM only saw the pic and read 3 posts. i see theengineer stepped in and i'm sure he eplained how you have to have a roll cage and all but yes, that thing does look S I C K!!!!! sk8dudety 06-05-2007, 09:29 AM yea like i said, i dislike the body a lot, and it definitely adds a ton of weight, but as far as the work done to the motor i've got to give him props cause ive never seen a 420aT done that clean before... but im guessing he's keeping the back seats just for looks... like the rest of the car [actually, now that i think of it that motor's probably empty :-)] blk90gst 07-10-2007, 03:58 AM How about a 1g targa top. Here is a of pic. local://upfiles/13364/6864D6D0725C455EBEE00032ACC2074A.jpg silvercoupe97 07-10-2007, 05:30 AM I've seen that one, that's a European 1G correct? I want to say that I saw that on Talk, but I can't remember. blk90gst 07-10-2007, 06:09 AM Ya it's a european 1g. I found it on tuners but it might on talk. I think they look good as targas. RCJr9186 07-10-2007, 09:05 AM i don't like that 2g rs-t targa.... body kit -1, he put a roof scoop built into the targa top -234981234134. lol but hey, if i liked the show/ricer/body kit look still i bet i'd love it. silvercoupe97 07-10-2007, 09:22 AM It also has staggered wheels.:( Dusty Eclipse 07-10-2007, 10:40 AM Ew.. that 1G looks like a Delsol. Also, whoever the hell put those sidemarkers on there, REALLY needs to get hit. HARD. 50ul }{4ck3r 07-10-2007, 08:40 PM TRUE TRUE...ryan davidmitsusrock 07-10-2007, 10:04 PM that 1g just doesnt do it and who puts a 3000gt wing on a eclipse? honestly.... blk90gst 07-10-2007, 11:19 PM I didn't notice the wing beforethat is ugly. 1993_Talon_ES 12-14-2007, 06:28 PM ehh its alright...they side markers are pretty gay...but hey they arent from the U.S. lol Sebba 12-14-2007, 07:55 PM Moron, this thread is like 5 months old.
