View Full Version : Intake System Question OZRally04 03-10-2005, 01:14 PM what is the difference between a Short Ram Intake System and a Cold Air Intake System, and which one would be better for my 2004 Lancer OZ Rally. vertstanggt 03-15-2005, 08:36 PM Cold air intakes are much better. A short ram keeps the filter in the engine bay usually in place of where the airbox was. A full length cold air usually takes the filter and puts it somewhere in the fenderwell or something like that where it's going to get nice dense cold air from outside which is better. The colder the air the denser it is so that's more air and fuel getting into the cylinders. clipso02 03-22-2005, 12:17 AM cool air provides better hp. It allows more dense air to be filterd to your gas, therefore producing better gas milage and burning at a hotter temp. To:D install a cool air you need to back it up past your rubber hose and its recommended to install a resistor on you air mass electric connecter, sould come with any cool air for lancer. Im installing one on my ralli art 05 and it fits perfect. DSMTalonAWD51 03-22-2005, 01:47 AM i wouldnt say its gonna give u better mileage, probly worse in fact, but ya def more power wicked_outlander 04-09-2005, 11:28 PM cold air / short ram both provide hp's. about extra 2-4 hp's w/ cold air. wicked_outlander 04-09-2005, 11:29 PM ORIGINAL: DSMTalonAWD51 i wouldnt say its gonna give u better mileage, probly worse in fact, but ya def more power true......esp. if u' like to accelerate. 04 EcLIpse GTS 07-23-2005, 10:18 PM Maybe its just me, but I have tried short rams in 3 diff. eclipses and they DONT WORK, only under the fender REAL cold air will really help. Under the fender air is about 140 degrees inside the engine is about 225 esp. since the short ram usually ends up right where the fans are and those extremely hot headers. Atownprepy99 07-25-2005, 12:25 AM True about the losing gas mileage, but if you like to accelerate you would be losing mpg anyways. Prophet 07-27-2005, 04:13 AM I find that when my customers install there first intake they fall in love with the sound and tend to develop a lead foot just to hear it. wicked_outlander 08-08-2005, 06:50 PM ORIGINAL: Prophet I find that when my customers install there first intake they fall in love with the sound and tend to develop a lead foot just to hear it. lolz...true!! soloRider 08-16-2005, 07:17 AM "screw it all just take off your stock air filter and say to hell with it...... right?" then i said sure (it was some guy who was talking crap about his car knowlege in HS so i let him continue thinking that lol |
