Sebba 03-01-2008, 02:39 PM Anything past6 and you need a built mottom end. That includes lower compression ratio pistons, forged rods etc... With all that you could run well over 10... more than double that even. However, thats only what you would needin terms of the motor. Thats not including things like injectors, fuel pump, tuning device, gauges, exhaust, intake ... all that factors into it. Its the pistons that SUCK. So really just pistons internally will do if you really want to, BUT while your in there you might as well slap in more beef PoolhallJunkie777 03-01-2008, 06:42 PM i dont have the cash to to multiple upgrades in one setting. but in a nut shell new pistons and i should be fine? also my friend also suggested changing the head gasket and keep the pistons and just run 5 psi untill i get the actual money for it. suggestions, or is my friend just dumb as rocks. EMonz57 03-01-2008, 07:13 PM well you still need injectors, fuel pump, gauges, emanage ect ect. you need atleast $3k for turbo these cars and that is a bare minimum only to run 6psi. Also you can supercharge with RippModds and there kits are pretty well put together and the stage III kit comes with pistons but costs like $6k but will make over 420WHP. The stage I runs 6PSI. That kit is rather cheap but dont remember the price. Sebba 03-01-2008, 07:16 PM Yeah, I didn't know that Mike. Well, why would you change a perfectly good headgaskets? Honestly changing it isnt going to do you the slightest bit of good. Just cost you more money. Not dumb, just not knowledgable. Well, if the pistons are safe at 6, running 5 isnt going to make the slightest bit of difference. Yes youcan run 6psi untill you have the cash to put in a nice set of pistons. Then when you tear the motor down, you will need to change the headgaskets, because you have to remove the heads (you shouldnt clamp them twice). Then you can crank it up. This is just a suggestion, that I tell pretty much everyone. Lets say you get this turbo setup, then you have to worry about tuning, and not to mention your clutch is going to take a beating (unless you are auto). Then once you get all that, you have to worry about traction. Any decent power in a front wheel drive car is going to be a pain. Ask EMonz, he had a turbo 3g. So, what I'm getting at... are you really attached to this car? Have you ever considered buying an already turbo car? They are much easier to mod. Not to mention, one with all wheel drive would hold the power. EMonz57 03-01-2008, 07:41 PM Yea changing headgaskets in the GT and GTS is easier said than done too. The motor has heads one in front which will be easy but the one in the back is prob close to impossible without pulling the motor. If your an auto you will need do some sort of tranny cooler too. and a 5spd will need a beefy clutch. like I said this is the bare minimum Lil Evo 03-01-2008, 07:51 PM save yourself the headache of doing a job twice. save your money, do it right the first time. less overall down time for the car, less tuning, headaches of making the difficult parts fit (as opposed to making them fit once, having to take them off six months later, then making them fit again), all this euqals makes for less asprin and more money left in your pocket at the end of the project. PoolhallJunkie777 03-01-2008, 09:41 PM yeah i am pretty attached to my car. i guess i will just start collecting parts until i have everything to start my project. i got a deal right now with another kid for an emange (older one) for 100 and a 14b for 50. (is this ideal?) i suppose i will wait untill i get a few more grand. thanks for the into, i am just excited i suppose and sorta bumed at the same time. Sebba 03-01-2008, 11:37 PM The 14b is useless on the 4G63... I can't imagine how badly it would suck on the 6G73 lol PoolhallJunkie777 03-02-2008, 12:41 AM even for a start? Sebba 03-02-2008, 12:43 AM Yeah dude... its THAT useless. Don't try and piece together your own turbo kit, thats not going to happen. PoolhallJunkie777 03-02-2008, 01:23 AM i could buy two of them for 100, would that do anything? Sebba 03-02-2008, 02:33 AM Yeah that would be better... but a larger single turbo would still be better EMonz57 03-02-2008, 08:48 AM ORIGINAL: PoolhallJunkie777 i could buy two of them for 100, would that do anything? no because your not going to be able to TT the car. Go on club3g.com and search tearston turbo kits. have a blast. forget peicing one together. buy one of those kits if any are for sale PoolhallJunkie777 03-02-2008, 08:33 PM what about the emanage, would i be able to use that still? and thanks EMonz57 03-02-2008, 08:37 PM you could if you plan to turbo it one day. But otherwise no PoolhallJunkie777 03-02-2008, 10:42 PM emonz you said that i could get a supercharger instead. i looked that up and i kinda like that idea better. for one, would that be the better way to go for me since i dont have the budget? two, what would i have to do in order to support the supercharger, or do you know? EMonz57 03-03-2008, 07:49 AM call RippModds. they sell these things and have been for like 5 years or more now WPSpyderGT01 03-10-2008, 01:50 AM want some performance parts i have a built engine =D selling it for alot less then i bought it and its never used! PoolhallJunkie777 03-10-2008, 07:50 PM how much and what is on it? WPSpyderGT01 03-12-2008, 02:52 AM 1750 plus shipping?? that includes.. the shortblock with cp pistons.. never used.. with all gaskets needed this does include refreshed heads and arp headstuds and awater pump for something like that you would be paying around 3000 plus 600 core exchange and 600 shipping |
