Default Steering column

Has anyone had any experience with the steering column in a Lancer detaching? The car still steers so it must be the adjusting mechanism but any experience or advice would be appreciated before the mechanic gives me a bid.

Thank you!

I believe it's the plastic around or something that controls the adjusting part of the steering column.....to move it up and down.

Ive never heard of those breaking... if it does... I doubt its an easy fix. It may be stealership time.

Now it drops down and there is no control or locking when I try to move it back up or into place.
