Default 91 VR4 oil leak from behind crank pulley

hello, i have a 91 VR4 with an oil leak from behind the crank pulley. my mechanic claims that he took the pulley off and the previous seal was relatively new and was installed correctly, so replacing the seal might not fix the leak. i suggested that maybe the previous mechanic didn't seat the seal correctly. can anything else be causing this leak? it's a 1991 3000 gt vr4 62k mi original, 5 speed manual.

we're replacing the timing belt, cam seals, tensioners, water pump... etc.

i've seen the leak from underneath, it leaks while the vehicle runs, and leaks at an increasing rate as you step on the throttle.. can this leak be caused anything else?

thank you kindly, in advance...

if it deffo is from behind the pulley then the oil seal is the only real culprit.
Increasing flow with throttle indicates oil pump gasket or seals though. Since youre into the T belt you may as well check everything.

thanks akz ... if you have the timing belt off, how much more work is it to replace the pump and seal? i read that you have to remove one side of the sub frame (which doesn't interfere with suspension components), the starter, exhaust f-pipe, and engine to transmission brackets. my mechanic is charging me $200 to change the timing belt, water pump, and front main seal, how much more do you think would be fair (considering what he charged for the timing stuff) to replace the oil pump as well? I'm reselling the car, so i don't want any leaks... thanks again

front wheel drives are horrible to work on, id charge twice that.
Its just a matter of parts really, as you have to take the timing belt off to replace the pump, he should have a clearer idea of whats needed once hes in there.
