Hey guys ,
I'm looking for some help . For sure I have a small leak from the heater core and I don't know if it is the core or the o-rings yet . I've already remove the glove box and can see the bottom of the heater box . Does anybody have a chart or something how to remove the radio ,center dash and all the stuff that is on the way because I do not want to brake something . My wife had a Beretta and I replaced the heater core on that one and it was a pain in the ...... . and I broke few things while fixin it . Looks that the Diamante has got a lot more things on the way .

its the o-rings. The cores never fail.

 

Now I really need help guys .... . I've tried to take the bottom of the condenser box and it is stuck at the bottom part that is attached to the firewall . I can feel that there is the AC pipe and when try to pull the plastic bed from the pipe it won't come out . I've attached some pictures and I hope someone has done it before and will help me . the only correct way to do it is to remove the dashboard and HVAC system.

the minimum you need to do is remove the AC evaporator, and im sure you dont have the equipment to properly evacuate or recharge the system.

 

I'm almost done removing the dashboard . The question is are the heater and the AC evaporator connected in anyway . Can I avoid discharging the refrigerant or I have to find a mechanic before I gut out the hole car? All I can see is some antifrieze leak but no oil or something like that .

 

you will need to remove the evaporator core.

 

I had this work done at a Mitsubishi shop for $1,000+. I hated it but it did fix the problem. The airbags just saved the lives of wifey and me when we hit a concrete center divider (new Firestone Affinity tire sidewall blowout). So just make sure they still work, they can be important.

 

bit late of a reply....Never is an overstatement...But usually when a heater core leaked you will smell coolant inside the vehicle.....its an annoying fix....other than that good luck to the guy doing the work and remember be careful with those airbags.

 

been workin on mitsus for 17 years.

the heater cores dont fail. On the diamantes, its always the o-rings, which compress and weep over time.
hence my prior recommendations for using the GM cooling system tabs. 2 or 3 WILL fix this leak, as its a prime candidate for it.

 

the tabs do work for awhile, but eventually the seals have to be replaced. be VERY carefull when taking out the heater box, you can break the blend doors on the inside of it, or break off the motors that move them that are on the box. that job at our shop pays 9 labor hours. and its worth every dime!! it is a pain in the a**, if you do it correctly. which means taking the dash out and everything behind it out too. greg....
