Default Handbrake issues 2003 Diamante

So today was the first snowfall here and I figured I go out and enjoy it. I went to pull my handbrake to enter a nice slide around a corner but it would not engage. I adjusted the nut to tighten up the hand brake but that still did not work. When in drive my handbrake will not engage but when Tried it at an idle in reverse the tires locked up and the handbrake engaged. Any ideas on why or how I could get it to engage while in drive?

Default mine too.

I have a 2002 with a lever that comes up loose and nothing engages.
Then the newly rebuilt 2003 has a lever that has nice feel as it comes up getting tight as it seems to clamp down, and nothing. It will roll away even down a 1% grade.
Hope someone can tell me what could be at work.
Cool.
srinath.
