Issue with Alternator Overcharging
So a few weeks ago I was sitting in line at the Us/Mexico border and noticed my voltage drop below 13volts. Shortly After we got on the freeway and watched it briefly jump up to 16+ volts as I accelerated and then it dropped and stopped charging the system. I went and ordered a new alternator From Rock Auto. When installing that one I had accidentally ripped out the wires to the voltage regulator without noticing. Battery ended up dying while driving the car. Towed it home. Fixed the wiring and then it would show as 16+ volts when the car was running and the battery light as well as another was on. Got another alternator from AutoZone today and installed it. Same issue, battery light is on and volt meter says charging at 15.5 volts. Although when I use my meter Im reading 1v less than my voltmeter reads. Tried swapping the battery, same results. Any idea what this might be?
