Squeaking sound when AC/Heat turned on
A squeaking sound has started, it only happens when I turn on the AC/Heat. It squeaks faster if I crank up the dial. It does not vary in speed with the speed I am driving. It does, however, vary on it's own occasionally. It sounds like a sad belt or sometimes a sad motor.
What is the problem and how much should it cost to fix? 2006 Mitsubishi Galant 6 cyl

Do I HATE this stupid site that times me out within minutes!!!! I may go to another DSM...I'll try to duplicate my response.
What dial do you turn up? If it is for the fan speed and the squeaking gets faster, it is the fan motor. If the squeaking increases with engine speed, it is a belt/idler or the accessory that is being driven by the belt. Try to loosen or remove the belts one by one, restart the car for a short time to see if the noise stopped. Continue doing this until the squeaking stops and you have identified the source,
