Default 95 mirage timing 1.5l

Im working on my friends 95 mirage 1.5l. it bent a rod and destroyed a piston when he was trying to use the car as a jet ski. well i have some doubts on how to set the timing right. since the motor was stuck i couldnt move the timing mark into place and i had to tear it apart as it was.

i have a manual i downloaded online, what i need to know is:

whats the piston diagram? which one is #1 and the others?

the crankshaft gear is the smaller and this motor moves two pistons up and two down simultaneously. can i align the crank timing gear in the mark and thats it? if the ratio is 2:1 should i worry about getting the right turn or setting either of the turns is the same thing?? as long as i set the head right??

thanks for the info!!!
