Mitsubishi Montero & Montero Sport This sport utility vehicle offers more size than the other Mitsubishi SUVs, but manages to keep a sporty look and comfortable feel, unlike many larger SUVs.

I think it's time to replace the plugs, timing belt, water pump and valve cover gaskets on my Montero sport 3.5,a 2001. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks for all your help here as I see that yas give great advise.

BELT:Yeah,id change the belt. Ive gone both 110 and 90K between changes . PLUGS: I havent changed them for 218K. i still get 20 to 22 mpg on fwys and hwys, and drive 55 to 65 mph . On the otherhand my wife gets 18,but i gave up trying to teach her how to drive . My california emissions tests have always passed including yesterdays test. Now, leaving the plugs in for 218k miles since new may cause me some issues when i decide to change them...I dunno. Ill ask that question in another post.
WATERPUMP etc :I change waterpump ,thermostat and all belts ,hoses with each timing belt change. You are changing the valve covers too? You didnt mention they were leaking oil so why change them?

Just recently changed my plugs and belts on my 95' minus the timing belt, the belts are easy but the plugs were a pain! not hard jus time consuming had to take off a bunch off stuff jus to get to the plug wires. im at 127k so i figured id change em.And just went in for my smog, passed everythng except emissions guy said im burning to much oil which doesnt make sense cuz it runs perfect and doesnt leak or get low on oil. I HATE SMOGS!
