My 99' Montero's power antenna is broken. It is fully extended, but won't retract and I can hear the motor run on/off as the stereo is turned on/off. Is it easier to replace the antenna with a simple fixed whip? If yes, how?

Since you can hear the motor running, then the motor's probably OK. Just buy a new power antenna mast. I recently did this in my '01. The antenna would retract to about a foot and stop. Replaced the mast with a new one which took about 2 minutes. Cost about $60. Can't remember the name of the store I bought it from (online). Do a Google search for Montero Power Antenna Mast and you'll find it.
