2001-2006 Montero - Rear Door Trunk Not Opening
#12
Last weekend I finally found time to get to it. It was a 25 min jobs. Removed handle and light. top panel first. Lower panel second. Pulled plastic out. Clean and lube that spring. Works like brand new.
Question is how the **** one lube that **** with out pulling all the plastic out? As it appears there is no way to lube it from outside.
Thank you all for providing perfect guide for this.

The only thing you can lube from the outside is the tumblers inside the cylinder lock. From inside the door (as me and a few other posters mentioned) you are able to lubricate the internal mechanism that opens/locks/unlocks the rear door.

Correct. That is why I asked that question. AS the problem was with an internal mechanism. Spring that operates it was rusted to a point that it was not moving anymore. Preventing moving parts to move.

hi, that is why the interior door panels are removable with the door shut. I wouldn't have been able to fix mine without destroying something otherwise.
when i bought it door never opened. previous owner didn't think to try taking the panel off!!
