Default 2001 Montero Limited Engine Woes

Hello all, My first post here looking for that Mitsu expert..
Just picked up a cherry Limited for the wife with 105K on it, I purchased from a local Business owner who had purchased new, Wife's car, all service done at the dealer etc.
I purchased with knowing about the goofy heat gauge issue,
I had put in a new thermostat, flushed the radiator, made sure the sending unit was working as far as Ohming it etc, The heat gauge still went up past top and would return to normal, I carried a laser temp tool to check and see when it did skyrocket, and only got readings of about 165 on the coolant housing etc, and system seemed to be performing normal, just that faulty gauge issue I assumed..
Went to take it out thios morn and sounded like the fan had a rattle to it, or a valve tick, well more I drove louder it got, and seemed now that its a Rod,
Here is the big question. Does anyone out there know of a reliable and trustworthy re builder that has short or long blocks?
I just paid $5K less than a month ago, Do not want to go and bitch to the seller as I dont think he had any knowledge, Sell it for parts?
I am stuck here, My wife absolutely loved this car, and just reaching out here to our new family for help...
Sorry about writing a novel, but any and all help is appreciated...
Regards
Ron
I will check here later, but if anyone else has the knowledge please send me an e mail at....

Thanks again

Default Engine clanking

Its sounds like a lower rod bearing is going,
I used a stethoscope to listen around the engine, loudest came from lower passenger side on oil pan.
I have been around enough vehicles to know what the sound is, the vehicle runs, but makes a knocking, goes away when revved when oil pressure is built
any other questions and or comments welcome to try to figure this out ..
Thx

I doubt you need a whole new block...

Default Agreed but....

When doing a full rebuild, I am looking for best bang for the buck, If I have the crank pulled etc, then I might as well just short or long block it,
I am not sure, but can all the work be done on this with the engine in frame?
( Like diesels? ), If so, then sure I would have the crank bearings and rod bearings done.....
Just looking for best way to do this, To nice of a car to part out
Thanks

its entirely up to you how much you spend.
For rod knock i personally would just do the bearings unless the clinders looked horrible or there were indications of other problems.

Anything is possible. I like my engines upside down on a bench when doing big end work.

Default Engine pull?

Is it possible to do this while engine in frame?
I am wondering if this is able to remove all rods and crank while in frame?
Thanks
