Default 2002 Montero hesitation problem

Hi all. I'm new to this site but think it's a good place to start.
I have a 2002 Montero Sport LS 6cyl automatic. My problem is the last month or so I've noticed it starting to buck, jerk, hesitate, skipping (whatever you want to call it)at idling and when I also start to accelerate. At idle you can watch the tach move when it skips. Check engine light also came on with the code coming back as a o2 sensor around the same time. Not sure if the two are related. I live in CT where we have emissions testing didn't think it was a big deal so I wasn't going to look at it until then.
Help

yes, replace your o2 sensor, maybe change the plugs and wires.

sounds like your maintenance on your vehicle is lacking, and it is now telling you about it
