OK so seriously, the guy who has the pdf file on this doesn't frequent this board anymore. I dunno, maybe he sold his Montero or what. But I posted pics and instructions on the previous pages. Just look back. I DON'T have any pdf file for this.

Default Same procedure with a 1998 3.5 Montero (Not sport)?

Thanks for the detailed pic. What a great guide!!!

I'm not a mechanic, or even a hobbiest, but out of necessity, I have been under the hood making various beginner to intermediate repairs since owning my Montero. Bought her used in 2002 and never changed the timing belt. She's running pretty well for her age, but I'd like to prevent an epic catastrophe should the timing belt fail anytime soon. I'm going to do this job my self and am not intimidated by the skill set required, but more so by the time it will take me to get her back on the road again.

I've looked over the job several times and can identify all the same parts from the outside of the engine. I have the official Mitsubishi shop manual for my truck, but do you think this 2002 sport timing belt job will be the same for me?

I have a feeling the process will be almost identical, but just wanted others to chime in.

Thanks!

I poke, I take pictures, I take my time and label stuff, and it took me two days at 3 to 4 hours each day. Like I said I go slow. I'm getting ready to change the spark plugs. That's going to be another pain in the butt. I'll post pics on it too.

Good Luck with the timing belt change, It took me about a week but I'm very thorough and took pic's with labels, Lapped the valves, Had the heads cut, Changed the water pump, Timing belt, New pulleys, New sensors, Spark Plugs, Valve cover gaskets with the new spark plug grommets, Took temp. readings of the Catalytic converters before and after, changed the water twice when done then added the proper mixture of antifreeze, changed the oil and filter twice, greased all fittings while I had it in my garage. Plus a few other things. I have 180K on the motor and it runs like a champ now and better than new.
