Haaaa, Check this out....
My bro pulls up in the driveway the other day with his brakes grabbing and pulling. I say when were they done he says a week ago. I pull off both front wheels and find that the left pads were on the passengers side and both right pads were on the drivers side..WTF. I actually had to pry them off. They were on crooked and must have been hammered on with the marks I found on the pads.
Just for ****s n giggles I put the pads on the right way and they just snapped right on..lmfao.
Rotors shot...
Pads shot...
Monroe Muffler denied putting them on the wrong way and would only replace the pads.. go figure.
So in all light... When taking it to the shop doesn't mean your getting the best of service from the manager but your relying on the backyard mechanic that's doing the job.
Haaaa imagine that.

Everything I am looking at for a 02 Montero XLS says the Spindle Nut on the hub should be torqued to 188ft lbs - some people have said 130ft lbs is sufficient. Its obviously not tight enough right now. It sounds worse than before it was replaced. Would anyone suggest using a torque wrench on the spindle nut? 188ft lbs sounds ridiculously tight. Thoughts?

A lot of the 12MM bolts around the hub/ (holding in the speed sensor) have snapped at the head. They are drilled out, but does anyone know the gauge and measurements so I can get replacements?

If the good book says 188 ft/lbs, then you should aim to be closer to that rather then 130 ft/lbs. It is difficult to find a torque wrench that will do a 188 (they are out there). To get around it you can get a breaker bar and put an extension on it (get a 2 or 3 ft pipe). Depending on the length of the extension you can figure out how much force needs to be applied to the end to get 188 ft/lbs torque at the nut. Then set your torque wrench to that setting and with a sacrificial bolt in the vice you can get a feeling for what that smaller force feels like to your hand. Then apply approximately the same amount of force to the extension on the breaker bar. That will put you in the ball park. I hope this helps.

My torque wrench goes to 150. I used a pipe as a breaker bar extention and it got good and tight. Too bad the brand new hub is now shot. At least I can drive at high speeds on the expressway for now. Thank you!!
