Default California Catalytic Converter

I have an 02 Montero Sport LS 3.0L that I have had confirmed that the passenger side catalytic converter is bad. It is a California car according to the shop but car is in TX where it is registered and driven and have no plans of going back to CA.
My question is, since the CA catalytic converters are so much more expensive and harder to find, can I replace with a 49 state compliant cat and it not affect the computer or throw any codes doing that?

Thanks in advance for your help.

the diff in the cali converter from the 49 state converter is one piece of paper the cali converter comes with a form that you are suppose to send to the dmv when you change the converter and they charge for the form the converters are the same

Yes you can. The California cat converter is only required for California.
