Default courtesy step light wires missing

Just as the title states. I was swapping all my interior lights with leds today when I noticed that the driver door courtesy light wasn't working. I hadn't paid attention to it before so I never noticed that it didnt work. So I took the housing out and sure enough no wires. I reached all around the hole where the housing fits into the door and couldnt feel them inside the door panel. Im a little worried that there might be an electrical issue with it and the previous owner just unplugged it. I also searched the forum to see if anyone had any similar experiences and couldnt find anything. I guess my next step would be to pull the door panel and find those wires.

Anyone have issues with their courtesy step lights?

Dont know about the courtesy lights but as far as the door panel I know there are screws you have to feel for, but it has to be popped out using a jimmy like prybar. You have to be careful. If you want, I'll do a DIY on it cause I have to replace a rear speaker next week. BTW, where did you get the LED lights? Where they a set specifically for the montero?

I am gonna pull the door panel on sunday, I just am not sure why they wouldve unplugged the wires to the light unless it blows a fuse every time a bulb is put in it.

The led bulbs are not montero specific other than bulb size.

Most bulbs are 168 and de3175. The reverse lights are 7440

I recommend using 28mm leds instead of de3175. The De3175 bulbs will work but are really tight.

Thanks. Also I kept thinking that the courtesy lights were the 2 that lit up the running board. Are you going to change those as well?

Problem solved! I opened up the bottom of the door panel and took the power window switch out and the wires were smashed up against the door frame. Im thinking what happened is the previous owner may have replaced a window regulator and forgot to pull the wires back down to the light. Also got all my lights except the map lights swapped to led I will post up some pics tonight of how bright these suckas are.

Well I found out the hard way. When ever you find wires that are not hooked up its probably for a good reason!

That daggone light wiped out all my lights, traction control, keyless entry, compass, radio, power locks, sun roof, power antenna, oh and if it couldnt get any worse my fuel pump. All of my fuses are intact so it could be a relay...or two...or three, possibly a bad fusible link ground. The dealer said it also could be a bad ground to the bcm...i guess only time and i mean $85 an hour will tell.

Default Bummer

That is a bummer of a problem you got. It sounds like a main fusible link because there is no way why all these systems would be on the same fuse circuit and you said the fuses are OK. Do any of the systems come back if you unplug the light?

The dealer had it for 2 hours and called with pretty good news. I fried the fuse that they put in when a vehicle is brand new and delivered to the dealership. I can't remember what the actual name of it was but it only cost $40 to diagnose and fix. I figured I fried everything lol. To answer your question hunter I tried removing lights in order of the way I installed them to see if anything would come back and nothing.
