What does the Off-Road package add to the vehicle? Is there an upgraded rear end?

Looks good and at a fair price... You might be able to get it for $2,500.00. If you are not at least a shade tree mechanic, go to a trusted shop and have it inspected before buying. If the owner says no, then there might be something wrong.

Thanks. I'm not really familiar with these Montero Sports, and although I'm pretty mechanically-inclined (I do as much work as possible on my past Saabs and BMW, and my wife's R50 Pathfinder ) I don't know what vehicle-specific areas to look into on this Sport.

Same specific areas you would look for in any 4x4 or car. Sludge in the engine (there will always be some, but not excessive), transmission/differential/transfer case leaks and noises, front CV joints, suspension noise, visual inspection of ball joints and tie rods, A/C and Heat working (if you do light mechanical work you might have an A/C charge gauge), if there is smoke coming out of the tail pipe, coolant level (if low check for leaks or if the oil has water), etc.

Montero Sports are tanks, just like the full size Montero. I see them constantly around, as they are very popular here, never heard anything bad about them. It uses the same engine as the Montero, which we know it is extremely reliable if standard regular maintenance is given.
