crank position sensor

crank position sensor
Still trying to figure out why my 89 montero suddenly quits. Can anyone tell me where to find the crank sensor and if there is a test that I can perform to check if it is operable

Hey, no answers yet? Tell me this, does your Montero have a distributor, V6 & a carb or is it a straight in-line 4 ? What's your set-up? If it has a distributor, that's where your Crank Angle Sensor is located, although I can't find any test for it in my manual; the diagnostic if it comes up with a trouble code in the test outlet is two long spikes followed by two short spikes. If your wiring checks out, it says merely to replace the distributor. It says also that the Check Engine Light should light if such a problem with the sensor is detected.
Post-distributor models would have to have this sensor mounted on the engine block in order to gather signals directly from crankshaft rotation, probably towards the rear near the transmission housing, but this is about as much as I know about it.
I'd love to hear from someone around here who's actually met this thing in person.
