My other issue with my 2001 Montero Sport XS 3.5 is "check engine light" on for evap. Put a new gas cap on it and no change. Money's tight so I'm hoping to try and address this on my own. Any suggestions as to known or common causes that may throw this code? Anything I can do to try and address on my own?

 

My check engine light would come on every time i filled up on fuel and then go off the next day so I changed my gas cap aswell, pulled the neg. terminal on the battery over night to reset and it hasnt came on since. Not sure if its any help but thats what i did. Maybe your new cap is faulty ive seen that happen before too.
