Default Front Cranks Seal Replace - 3.0 - Help

We have ruined two seals (they peel on the sharp edge of the bearing) today trying to get the seal behide the crank timing belt gear replaced.

Not being familiar with the Montero or Mitsubishi 3.0 V6 doesn't help, I'm sure. We had a hard time getting the old seal out as well. Are we in over our heads? It looks like most oil seals I have seen. I'm wondering if the part we are trying to push the bearing into has been damaged? The metal edges are very sharp feeling.

What are we doing wrong? We need your help?

Thanks

I looked in the FSM and there is no special procedure. I just says to put a bit of engine oil on the seal and tap it into place with special mitsu tool; blah blah blah.

I don't konw what else to tell you. I don't think there is anything special about this mitsu seal.

There are some Mitsu Techs who hang out here.Maybe they will chime in.

Default RE: Front Cranks Seal Replace - 3.0 - Help

The problem I was having is that the oil pump housing into which the seal fits was severely damaged either by the harmonic balancer failure event or by someone doing a previous repair that butchered the metal housing.

As a result of this incident, I also need a 3.0L V6 crank. The woodruff key slot in my crank is damaged beyond repair?

Anyone know a good source for Mitsubishi cranks?

Thanks

Tom
