Default Helping an elderly friend fix his montero

OK, we are both elderly , but he is handicapped....
The back seat angle adjuster was boogered, looks to be a factory screw up, you push down? on the handle, can't get enough travel to release the seat back. The lever hits the floor before getting eough travel to release the latch. I managed to get the seatback stuck in a reasonable position and he can live with that.
Other issue, upper glove box latch is frozen, will not release. Looks like the only answer is to remove the lower box, drill a hand sized hole, and insert hand and stubby phillips screwdriver and remove the latch.
The lower glove box lock takes a key, and it tends to hang up, but it works most of the time.
Anybody else have problems with the glove box locks?
And, how do you remove the fascia? Pull til it breaks? We need to get the cig lighter back in its hole, it got pushed through and is behind the hole.
thanks....
