Default What are the codes?

What actual codes you get from your Montero? P###?
As for part 2 of your question - DOHC = Double over head cam, SOHC = Single over head cam. These are different engine configurations, which means that some parts will be specific to particular engine.

achiiiii, you are asking what something is - without knowing what you're asking for.

We don't know where to start without knowing the code numbers, since we're not driving your truck.

Having said that, dohc, sohc, have nothing to do with poor mixture.
spark plug wires probably have nothing to do with it either.

If I were pushed, my guess would be dirty Mass air flow sensor (depending on the code numbers) it can be cleaned easily in 5min. (by someone who knows what they're doing)

maybe oxygen sensors (again code numbers)

detonation generally is caused by running really hot or really lean mixture

Do you know if anyone maintained the truck or was it run until it broke?

I agree, take it to a mechanic who's not afraid to give you detailed information

luck,greg
