Default Hold light in dash of 2000 Sport

My daughter has a 2000 Sport without an owners manual and a dash indicator light came on tonight that is "HOLD". Can anyone tell me what it is for? I drove the Sport and could not feel or hear anything amiss.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Default RE: Hold light in dash of 2000 Sport

I believe it causes the auto trans to start in second gear. This is sometimes usefull in snowy or slipery conditions. It causes less torque to be applied to the wheels so they are less likely to spin upon startup. There should be a button near the shifter to turn it on and off. It is the same button that switches the transmission to "Power" mode. Power mode causes the trans to shift "later" that is the engine will rev higher between shifts.
