Mitsubishi Montero & Montero Sport This sport utility vehicle offers more size than the other Mitsubishi SUVs, but manages to keep a sporty look and comfortable feel, unlike many larger SUVs.

Default New here and in need of help.

I have a 1990 Montero and I've been having some issues. 175,000 miles on the truck. 2 weeks ago it kept stalling out on he in first gear. Seemed like the fuel filter, so I changed that along with the plug wires, cap and rotor. The next day it ran fine and then cut out on me completely. No voltage is getting to the fuel pump when the ignition is "ON" I jumper the test connector and the fuel pump kicks on. I'm getting 12v to the distributor cap and coil resistance tests fine. I thought it was the ignition control relay, so I replaced that but it didn't help. Engine will turn over, so I'm at a loss as to what else it could be besides the ignition switch. Any ideas?? Thanks.

It sounds like the issue may be the fuel pump relay.
Have you tried to start the engine with the jumper as you described?

I have tried starting it with it jumpered and it still doesn't start. Only cranks. Fuel pump relay and the ignition control relay come up as the same part when I was trouble shooting. Different places called it both names.

I'm stumped. I hope someone with a better knowledge of earlier Monteros will chime in.

Thanks HunterD. I've even been calling Mitsubishi dealerships asking for any common problems with my generation and keep getting the answer.....nothing, those trucks are built to last. Good and bad answer in a way.
