Mitsubishi Montero & Montero Sport This sport utility vehicle offers more size than the other Mitsubishi SUVs, but manages to keep a sporty look and comfortable feel, unlike many larger SUVs.

Hi everybody. I'm looking a getting a 2002 montero sport limited. I'm gonna try and trade a 2004 honda vtx for it. Is there any thing I should be looking at in paticular when checking this thing out? The things I've noticed so far is the back right window doesn't go down. The switch is loose. The power antenna is broken and the shift for the AWD/4HI/4LO has alot of play in it. The trans case is shifting into low range. The thing seems to be a decent offroader. Any tips or info would be appreciated. Thanks

Besides the usual, check to make sure the Center Differential light (orange) does not flash. and that transfer case actually goes into 4wd and low range. You can tell it is in 4wd if you turn in a paved parking lot - the vehicle will be slightly hopping and you'll hear outside front wheel slipping on the pavement. If you have access to a OBTII scanner, hook it up to the vehicle to see if it has any codes stored or if the codes were cleared recently.

The light did flash. The shifter was loose. I jiggled it alittle bit and it stayed on. The trans case if shifting to low range. There was a noticeable difference

Do you mean it flashed ON and then when OFF at start up? That is normal. I'm referring to Orange CD light flashing all the time and not going off. If that is happening, you may have an issue with transfer case and/or sensors signaling engagement of 4wd.

That is correct - flashing light when you shift indicates that it is working on engaging the gears. Once engaged light stays steady. If there were an error in operation the light will continue flashing until next engine restart.
