Question P0510 code in a 1999 Montero Sport

Hi everyone. Today I took my 1999 Montero Sport to Autozone to retrieve the code that triggered the 'check engine light" It has a 3.0L engine.
The code retrieved was P0510 which is Accelerator Pedal Position ( APP) switch circuit with the following causes:
1- Open or short circuit condition
2- Poor electrical connection
3-Faulty APP
I work for a municipality and many trucks and pickups there have an electronic accelerator pedal and it's understandable that an Accelerator Pedal Switch (APP) is present but for sure I know that my monty have a cable accelerator, not an electronic one. According with this, how come Autozone detected a code like this unless this APP is located somewhere else? Maybe the Autozone scanner is bad and gave me the wrong code. Might be the TPS?
Any comments are welcome.

Challenger 4x4 has it right. It's reading a failure in the switch part of the Throttle Position Sensor - TPS. Autozone's generic description of code 510 is not correct

The write up linked below from a similar engine may help you learn if it's a bad part or just out of adjustment - if you have a test meter. Check the terminals of the sensor that relate to the closed (on-off) function. There is also a set of contacts for the variable resistor that tells the ECU how far open the trottle is.

By the way, this monty is running fine, no hesitation , no nothing, should I erase the code or try to test the TPS? A mechanic once told me that if it is working fine, don't touch it, you may damage it and make it worse.

jrmdir you are right, it is the tps. By the way It is fine. I don't really know why that code came up. I erased the code and had no problem at all. Everything remained the same.
