Default Replacing stock stereo on a 99 Montero

I am looking to replace the stock stereo on a '99 Montero (not sport). Any do's, dont's, or tips for this? I plan on installing a regular single DIN unit to replace the 6-CD changer + AM/FM/Cassette unit. Is it as simple as soldering the new harness on to the existing harness? Any bypass involved?

Thanks!

soldering? that is not necessary, however there are some installers who swear by soldering only for the best connection. But nice solderless terminals and crimping are fine for the average joe.

This is basic stuff, you just need to get the "dash kit" and wiring harness so you don't cut your stock harness, and its just a matter of matchng up wires. you don't bypass anything, if you have a stock amp then advanced harnesses/installs may be necessary, but i cant speak on those because i only help and know about 01-06 montero (NOT SPORT)
