Retrieving engine codes
I have a 95 montero sr and my engine light has been coming on. Is there a way to retrieve trouble codes without a reader?( ie..jumper wire, reading cluster light)? Is a 95 OBD 2 compatible?

RE: Retrieving engine codes
I discovered that if you put a jumper in #1 slot of 16 pin connector and ground it then you can turn on ignition and the Maint. light will blink the codes. It was onelong then one short (11). My book said it is the heated O2 sensor. I need to chec it out i guess. I can reset the ECM and drive and the engine light stays off until i get up to about 50 mph for a certain amount of time then it comes on again.

trouble retrieving codes
Hello...I have just purchased a 2000 Montero sport and I have a question...
My check engine light is on and I went to Oreilly to have them read the codes and a weird thing happened. When he hooked up the scanner and started to scan...the speedometer went from 0-approx 60mph then the scanner said it couldn't connect.
he tried this another time and the same thing happened.
Weird huh?? any thoughts?
