Default Spark plug replacement

Has anyone replaced the spark plugs of his 1999 Montero Sports limited? I was planning to DIY, but held back because I can't even locate where all the spark plugs are. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Vcleynes, Yes I located mine under the intake. You have to get a service manual/CD online about 13 bucks and a intake gasket kit about 68 bucks cause you have to take apart the top of the motor. Depending on the mileage you should get a timing belt kit also with all the gaskets included just over 100 bucks. The manual should tell you the torque specs and is a must have.

No need to buy a manual or cd. Heres a step by step with pics from Montero Sport Online - For the Montero Sport, Pajero Sport, and Nativa enthusiasts. it will get you through it just as easy as a manual will.

Don't forget to check the Sticky post near the top of the Montero page. Check the links there and you should be able to locate relevant parts of the manuals related to the work you are doing. The spark plugs are very well hidden on these engines - they are tucked under the bends of the plenum. It is not difficult to get to them, just some patience and paying attention. It may help you to take photos as you disassemble the parts and than follow back to put it back together. Make sure to set aside few hours for this and don't hurry. I'd second getting the plenum gasket set. Also, if you are going to disconnect TB from plenum, the gasket there fits in a specific orientation. Make sure to study the manual. If you get it wrong - it will throw the Check Engine Code. Not a big deal, but you'll have to unbolt the TB and turn the gasket in the correct position.
