Hello again, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with their exhaust system rotting out. My Montero is a 2001 but I really didn't think it would rot out the way it did. I have 127,000 mi. on it and it hasn't even had a tune up on it yet but I just had that question. I also have an oil leak in the back of the motor somewhere too.????? Do they use salt on the roads where you live? It is merciless on any metal.

As far as the oil leak - which part of the engine is it coming from? It can be valve cover gaskets or very likely camshaft position sensor seal. Camshaft position sensor is on the back of the engine (passenger side) right below the valve cover. When the engine is cold reach in there and feel for oil. The gasket is just a few bucks and replacement is easy if you are comfortable with working on your own truck.

 

Thank You Hunter and Jkeaton, I forgot about all the dam salt. I live in Penn. so I guess getting almost 15 years out of an exhaust system isn't so bad then. I will have to check that oil leak out as far as the cam seal and will get back to ya.....Mitch
