Default 2011 Outlander XLS power outlet conversion

Is there a way to make the power outlet, in the center armrest, not on all the time? I have an XM radio unit, I plug into it, and dont want to have to turn it off and on everytime I use it.

Any suggestions would be a great help.

Why would they make that outlet "hot" all the time?

You could write a relay inline that was powered by an accessory switched circuit...

Someone else may have a better idea though..

i'm happy that this outlet on all the time. You have cigarette outlet, that is on/off with the key.

I would cut the front cigarette outlet wire and make a 3-4ft extension and plug that into the armest socket.

Then i would plug the wire that was on the armrest socket into the cigarette socket.

Getting to the rear socket is easy, just slide your front seats all the way forward. Then there are 4 screws on the back which hold the rear cover in place. As for getting to the front socket, i don't have any photos, sorry.
