Default Different size oil filter ok?

Hey all,

Have a 2009 v6 outie with 150,000km. I usually use the dealer supplied oil filter. I ran out so I bought a mobil 1 extended performance #M-1110. However, Im pretty sure it's shorter than the Mitsubishi one from the dealer. The M-1110 was what popped up on the mobil 1 site and automotive site when entering the vehicle info.

I guess my question is is it ok to have a smaller oil filter on the outlander?
(noob question I know....)

Thanks,
Dave

i've never run an OEM filter. I primarily run Purolator. If the online guide says that's the model, then that's the model. I think i've run a Mobile1 filter once before when it was on sale. I'm at 160k miles...going strong.

A larger filter volume size is nice to have.
But the more important specs are matching gasket size, bypass pressure, burst pressure of the can, etc. If the online lookup pointed you to that filter for your engine's application you are all set.
The engine won't notice a 100mL less oil in the system and you should have a better quality filter media/construction for the price of the M1 vs OEM.

It's amazing how automotive folks balk at high quality $20 filters while motorcycle guys don't even blink. Good on you spending money on a quality filter.

Larger diameter ("for honda") filter won't screw on properly and will leak.
