I have never owned a mitsubushi (always been dodges,fords,chevs and bmw`s)
I have been looking at a 2009 outlander with 120000km . engine sounds quiet ,tranny shifts smooth, tranny fluid clean,oil clean, how many km`s can you get out of these engines, I was told this engine has a chain not a belt, what can I expect to do for maintenance? are there electrical gremlins in these vehicles like bmw`s? what should I be looking for ?I am currently driving a 2011 ford escape which I only had for a year and now ready to lose some money from it and trade it in for a reliable vehicle that doesn`t have issues with clunks in the front end,paint peeling and a/c issues. so basically would this be a vehicle for me?

 

really we need more information about what you are looking at. from your description, it sounds like you are looking at one with a 2.4L engine. There were two engines available in north america, the 3.0L and the 2.4L. The 3.0L is belt driven and 2.4L is chain driven. I have the 3.0L and really like the power it provides. I do all my own maintenance, and so far it is very strong. I'm at 162K miles, or 260k KM. No major issues so far, though I'm just now considering doing some work on the suspension...seems a bit tired these days.

also, since this is a global vehicle with different engines available on the east side of the atlantic...knowing your information could help as well.

 

I live in ontario canada , and it does have the 2.4 and its fwd ,my wife doesn`t care if its awd or fwd, shes use to driving a 2003 tiburon fwd in the winter. also we might be at getting the 2015 model with 2.4 .realy like the 10yr pt warranty and 5 yr bumper to bumper warranty. a big piece of mind.
1 other question do these vehicles break down alot?

I can't comment on the 2009 Outlander, but we recently purchased a 2015 Outlander and have been very happy with it. It's not the most powerful thing on the planet with the 4 cylinder, but does what it was intended to do. So far about 10,000 miles and 0 problems. This was our first Mitsubishi too, so I understand your concern with jumping brands. I have always owned Dodges.

 

You should be good, the Outlander is very reliable. Mitsubishi is not that popular in Canada but because of this you can find used models for a very good price. If you intend to keep the car for many years and don't intend to resell it after 3-4 years, it is a very good purchase. All Outlanders are made in Japan.
We have 2 in the family, my sister has owned one since 2007 and has almost 200,000 KM on the clock. Except regular maintenance, nothing broke down so far and the engine pulls just like new. Most likely what will kill the car is the rust due to salt on the roads. Eastern Canada is notorious for that so make sure you rust proof the car with Krown.
Mine is a 2009 and it just works, I have no complaints except maybe I wanted a bit more power out of it. Personally I wouldn't get the 2.4L engine. It is a heavy car, almost 1700KG / 3700 lbs and the 2.4 will struggle with some passengers and luggage. The 3L V6 would be a better option and I think all V6s come standard with AWD (you can select 2WD or 4WD depending on road conditions so increased fuel usage will not be a problem).

 

The Outlander is an excellent vehicle! Make sure you run an AutoCheck.com report before buying.

 

now I think my wife wants the rvr. new 2wd with the 2.0 engine . took one for a test drive not all that powerful but that is what she wants. hmmm?

 

I also just purchased a 2015. Great Vehicle. As Charger says; not the most powerful but if you press down the pedal it will go ! I especially like the Rockford Fosgate stereo. Best bang for your buck in SUV's these days. Happy So Far. Might get the V6 next time. Norm C.

I bought a 2003 Outlander AWD 2.4L with 156000km on it 2.5 years ago. Ive probably put as much money I paid for the vehicle back into the vehicle. (New rad, brake caliper, o2 sensor, all rear suspention, ball joint (whole front control arm) drive shaft etc) This car has never left me at the side of the road and always started (angrily in the rain and cold but its old). I would buy a new mitsubishi but used never again. The parts are just too expensive and relatively hard to find!
