New mitsubishi owner!
Hi guys! I've been following this forum for awhile now. I just picked up a 2010 Outlander ES AWD 2.4L with 166,000 miles for about $3800. I was looking for a beater small SUV and this is one of the top choices for me that's available in Craigslist at the time.
I know a lot of you will scorn me for buying such a high mileage vehicle but I have read a lot of good reviews about the outlander's reliability, thus making me decide to pull the trigger. It has only 1 owner, mostly highway miles and the price is very good. Also, it is driven by a timing chain which will last about 200,000 miles (hopefully) so by the time the engine blows, I would've gotten my money's worth. I will only be driving this car for around 5000 miles a year.
The car is in excellent condition inside out so I dont have to deal with the headache of older car problems such as rust, electrical issues, wear and tear. etc. Maintenance-wise, I plan to change the engine oil and filter, air filter, transmission fluid, spark plugs, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, steering fluid flush, and differential oil.
Let me know what you guys think and if you have any advice or tips for me, it would help me alot. Hoping to have this vehicle last me a long time. Thanks!

Nice car at a great price! I have an 07 with 152k on it and no major issues thus far except the ac compressor went out. You might also need to think about the catalytic converter going also but with the mileage hopefully the previous owner did that replacement.
I have a v6 with an automatic so I don't have experience with a 4 cylinder cvt. But from owning 3 Mitsubishis I can tell you they are pretty good once you keep up with maintenance, but I never had one long enough to get to 160K (lancer is currently @ 153k) but I'm confident they can do 200k easy.

High miles on the highway are easy miles and wear on the vehicle differently than city miles. That's how semi-tractors can hit millions of miles before they are retired. Start/stop and short tripping is really hard on the engine/tranny/suspension.
Do your maintenance as best you can and you'll easily hit 200k. I'm almost there in my '07...had it since 30k miles. If it were my vehicle, I'd get a used oil analysis the next time it is due, just for a peace of mind.

I bought the car in Coram. But I live in nassau county. Just got home from a half hour drive to queens. Check engline light went on for the first time since I had the car. Also, steering shakes over 70mph. Probably caused by the bad right outer tie rod which was pointed out when I had a prepurchase inspection done before i bought the car. Will also buy an OBD scanner to find out the code it's throwing out from the check engine light.
