Default opening the trunk

Today I tried to exit the car while the engine is running, tried to open the trunk, I tried everything to unlock buttons etc, but the trunk wouldn't open until my engine is shut off to lock position.

Is there a trunk release button somewhere? I have the FAST key system.

On the other hand this seems reasonable because when you are driving people cannot open your trunk from the outside.

The FAST key stops working for some retarded *** reason while the engine is running. Next time just walk back to your drivers door, push the unlock switch on the inside of the door (because the exterior button turns off as well) and it will be unlocked.

I absolutely DESPISE this "feature"

I did walk to the drivers door and press unlock and I wasn't able to open the trunk.
I think the moment I walked out of the car and it starts beeping maybe it goes into a crazy mode until I turn the engine all the way off to lock position.

Just thought it might be good to drop someone off and get their luggage without turning off the engine.

Maybe it was a fluke? What year, country, and model is your Outlander?

Mine is a US Spec 2011 Outlander Sport SE with the FAST key and I routinely just walk to my drivers door and can unlock the other doors from the button on the arm rest.

I've been meaning to ask if there was a way to change this via the ETACS stuff Vadimus is doing.

today I pressed the unlock button first before going out of the car (beeping)
and I was able to open the trunk, without turning off the car.

I have a 2012 GT

That's odd.....the same exact thing happened to me this morning. Thought it was completely retarded that the remote doesn't work when the vehicle is running. Clicked the unlock button on the driver's door and was able to open the hatch.

On a related note, my Outlander Sport is in the shop for a few days (asshat backed into me while trying to park) and I have a 2012 Nissan Altima with Nissan's version of the FASTkey system in it. Same everything, button on door, PBS, etc. except when you get out of the damn Nissan and go to the trunk the effing key will still unlock it. Seems like Nissan realized how simple of a concept is and made it work in their cars, yet Mitsubishi overlooked something as simple as this.

today I did a drop off again, this time I left the driver side door slightly open and I didn't get a beep that key is missing, and I was able to open the trunk without doing anything else.
