Outlander air filter
#32
I have a 4cyl 2.4L, read everywhere that no one makes one, you can not do it... so i ordered a 2.4L lancer Ingen set up... figured i would just have to cut and re weld it back up to follow the shape... NOPE, bolted right up, took 5 min to install. I have got about 2-4 MPG better, really woke up the acceleration on the vehicle (was a dog getting on the highway), but the intake is pretty loud. I am going to build a sheet metal box for it and plum in a cool air inlet. that should quiet it down a bit, also will port and polish the throttle body and put a Magna flow muffler on it to let it breathe a bit better. all in all i am very happy with it

Hi everyone, I read my 2012 maintenance book and it seems the Outlander doesn't need the air filter replaced until 30k miles under normal conditions, and severe conditions you would check it every few thousand miles after 15k. Is this correct.. I know I am past 15k but I'm thinking of waiting until 22.5k or later. It seems a lot of cars now have specified long interval for air filters as we have another family car that have air filter replace every 37.5k miles.
The car manual does have the procedure and for the V6 engine there is no need to remove anything, just open the clasps and drop it in (without separating the bottom hinges, hopefully).

Well, it's almost 09/16 so the car is getting a bit old...but I still LOVE it!
I've tried all methods mentioned...and failed.
Am unable to remove the 2 clip-screws and unable to 'lock' the bottom hinges.
In fact, I'm not quite sure what is supposed to be 'lined up'...I don't get how to 'lock the hinges'.
Do they slide into each other? or perhaps snap onto each other from above & below?
So frustrated - will only blow it out after I get this new filter in and locked, and will tell Oil Change guys to NOT check it as I'm quite sure they dislodged it in the 1st place.
Thx for your help.

Hi you just need to make sure the bottom nubs on the halves a goes onto the recess.
I don't think it hinges or snaps except for the top part. That's why it was kind of difficult for other shops to do it correctly. But it should be obvious once you get it correct

I am using the Wix.At first I thought I had it in but wife noticed that the engine suddenly seemed louder.I ended up removing the air box completely, then mating the two halves and snapping the clasps, and putting it all back together.Only had to remove one bolt
