And surprisingly found its building quality and riding quality are worse than Outlander. I seriously considered to buy a RAV4. I guess I will have to look something else.

Oh, RAV4's gas mileage is worse than Outlander too. Its small gas tank makes the case even worse.

Funny, but not really. The gas mileage is TBD, based on recent news.

Are you talking about the Mitsubishi gas mileage issue with the mini-cars that were only sold in Japan?

With my Outlander, I constantly get 28+ mpg on my daily commute. And I get 28 or lower on highway. (Maybe my Outlander thought it was a Hybrid.)

I could only get about 26 mpg local with that RAV4. But I did get 30+ mpg on highway.

I had to stop and buy gas on my way to airport. I only drove about 310 miles on that RAV4. With my Outlander, I can easily drive 400 miles before refuel.

Those are real world numbers so definitely accurate. I was actually referring to the news yesterday that more Mits models were affected by the improper rating techniques used, maybe all since the 90's. Real world performance definitely trumps that, but I always experience lower than rated gas mileage on my cars. Most definitely due to where I drive and not necessarily due to numbers manipulation. Anyway, it seems that Mits got in trouble for using inflated US standards for rating mileage and not the more stringent Japanese system. This implies that the US ratings on our cars are not any more inflated than they have always been. It's just a bit of a black mark for the brand as seen by the stock price activity.

Well, I think the reason I got worse highway gas mileage was I drove too fast. We just had a 5-hour road trip in weekend. This time the whole family, 4 of us, were in the Outlander. And there were a few vehicles on the highway. So I refrained from speeding and kept the speed under 80. I got 31+ mpg this time.

I have the V6 and it happily drinks gas!

I am very confident the outlander drives better than RAV or CRV though (driven some but not all of the new ones). But they are all very loud inside the cabin.

Gotta love my 4-cylinder. Yesterday I left to work late. So other than a few traffic lights, there was no traffic problem. 100% local road with top speed around 45, I got 33+ mpg for that 30 minutes commute trip.

Late again this morning, and because of the holiday weekend, there were even fewer vehicles on the road. I got 35+ mpg today!

I let them change the oil the day before yesterday. Not sure if it has anything to do with those record breaking MPGs.
